The Brandeis Center represents the Tel Aviv Heat, Israel’s first professional rugby team. The World Rugby Union (WRU) has opened an investigation into a complaint alleging that the South African Rugby Union violated WRU bylaws through its discriminatory exclusion of the Tel Aviv Heat from the Mzansi Challenge rugby competition. Evidence indicated that the Heat were excluded because the team was based on Israel, in violation of the principles of equal inclusion that underlie international sports. The Brandeis Center called on the WRU to make a finding of discrimination and reinstate the Heat into the Challenge.
In a letter organized by the Brandeis Center, major Jewish organizations urged the U.S. team, the San Clemente Rhinos, to pull out of an international competition in South Africa.
